The Name Game - Bloggers Beware

I am surprised that there are not more problems with name on the internet.  I remember hearing 10 years ago how people where buying names like Microsoft.com and just sitting on them hoping to get paid big money when the company who owned the name struck it big.

But that has been a long time ago and now you never hear about it… Almost…

There is a site called radioopensource.org which somehow thinks that they own the name open source media?  I am not real clear on that myself.  I guess it’s lucky for them they didn’t go to court over this and get a judge that thinks like I do.

If your name is radio open source then I am not sure in my mind that you can lay claim to anything open source, but since nobody cares what I think it really doesn’t matter that much.

Anyway, there was a blog network that called itself pajamas media then they decided to change their name to open source media.

It looks like they have the url www.osm.org so open source media probably seemed like a good name.

So the radio open source site cried fowl and osm.org changed their name back to pajamas media.

So if you ever decide to start a blog and you want to use the words open or source in the name you better be careful.

Other than that you’re probably ok, unless someone else complains.

Oh yeah, don’t even think about calling yourself “making money online blog” or I will have to come after you and force you to change your name to something that has to do with sleep wear.  *evil grin*
