I am looking for a way to use a cell phone that I have that does not have a cell phone provider connected to it,
it is a smart phone LG Optimus S LS670 so I can connect it to wifi and use the internet.
Now I am looking to make it work like a real cell phone.
http://www.ipkall.com/ - looks like they give out free phone numbers that are in washington state.
http://voip-now.ru/en/faq/ and their twitter site http://twitter.com/#!/voipnowapp
- not sure what these people are thinking, they don't give you the price of their calls, just that they want you to give them $10
looks like they tried to put up pdf files with some prices, but the links are broken.
http://economyofeffort.com/2010/07/30/turn-an-android-handset-into-a-free-wifi-phone-with-google-voice/ - this is outdated, but a few years ago I guess it worked to hook up your cell phone.
http://www.gizmo5.com/ - this site just gives you an error message now, it was a voip site and Google bought them and then closed the site.
I am also looking for a free way to make phone calls to other countries, and I would like to use my cell phone with no service to make those calls.
Ok, I found a site Monotalk.com and signed up with them, then on my Optimus phone I downloaded CSipSimple from the android market place.
CSipSimple allows you to use MonoTalk on your phone, and you can call any other phone (or computer) that has it installed,
the phone rings, and you answer it just like you were paying for cell phone service.
The best thing about this is that it is all free.
They also provide a paid service where you can buy minutes and call any phone, not just other phones that have Mondotalk installed.
But for free this is pretty cool, and it will work anywhere in the world, all you need is a wifi connection.
I did run it on an old android phone that has a slower internet connection and it makes you sound like a robot when you talk, but with the Optimus it sounds just like a regular phone.
If you know someone in a foreign country that has internet, you could make free phone calls with this.
