Another site I looked at for sale on Ebay said it was a Page Rank 6 site and the seller wanted a few thousand dollars for it. Which sounds like a great deal. They claimed:
- The site had all organic links
- Links had been built up over time
- All the traffic was free
- None of the links were paid for
It was this last claim that I thought was a little curious, so I started checking the site out.
They had exactly one link from a Page Rank 7 sites home page. The site was also selling links to other sites so I think it was safe to assume they had paid for that link, waited for a Google update then try to sucker someone into paying more for the site than they did for the link.
If you are the one who bought this site I feel sorry for you.
If you’re thinking about buying a website and you are going to pay anything for the traffic the seller is claiming to have, don’t bother looking at a screen shot showing 900,000 visitors per day, everyone on Ebay has one of those.
First check www.allwhois.com and see when the domain name was created, if it was created 2 days ago. Guess what, they don’t have any search engine traffic you can forget about it because someone else will over pay thinking they are telling the truth.
This also will tell you if it is possible for them to have made the $5,000 per month for the last 4 to 6 months that their ads claims. If the domain was created 2 days ago then those profit figures are not right.
So let say you find that rare site that was created more than a week ago, so it might actually be getting some traffic.
Go here www.alexa.com and check to see how much traffic they are actually getting.
