Buying A WebSite - Buyers Remorse

I just put in an offer to buy a directory site for sale.  As soon as I clicked on send I started having buyer’s remorse.

The main thing that started going through my mind was that this site is set up with some software writing by the seller in ASP which I know very little about.

This means that moving the site is probably going to be a major ordeal if possible at all, and there will be little or no way to back up the directory.

Plus with a directory most software does not include a way to check to see if the sites are still linking back to you, or even if they are live links or not.

A large part of the value is the list of links and if that is lost then really what I will be left with is a domain name that is page rank 3, my offer was $775 so right now I am hoping someone will over bid me so I won’t have to deal with all these problems.

Next time I will be sure to find out what kind of software is being used, and if it is a directory.

  • Is a back link required

  • Can the software check all entries for an active back link

  • Can the software check for dead links

  • Can a backup be made without a lot of trouble

  • Does it use a mysql database
These are just for starters.  I will add to this list later if I ever decided to do this again.
