My mom asked me - what is a Blog?
There are a lot of different answers to this question – some highly technical, some more philosophical.
I look at it from my point of view. I think of a blog as a personal web page that is more or less arranged chronologically. Kind of a journal that is available on the web.
I tried to explain this to my mom and her reply was “oh yes, I think I was on the web where the blogging is one time, but I can’t remember how to get back there.”
Her implication was that there is an entrance somewhere on the web and if you can find this door and go through it you will be in the middle of the blogging.
I realized at that point she had not really understood anything I had said.
So I backed up and tried to explain that a blog is just a website that has a special structure to it.
The activity of updating a blog is “blogging” and someone who keeps a blog is a “blogger.”
Most blogs are written by one person and are updated somewhat regularly.
Blogs are often (but not always) written on a particular topic or somewhat related subject.
Even though that subject may just be - all the things someone has done in their day.
More specifics on blogs
Comments – Some blogs have comments. These vary widely. Many times you have to subscribe and log in to use this feature.
Archives – This is one of my least favorite parts to blogs. Usually these are in some kind of chronological order also, but at best they are difficult to really find anything.
However if you find a blog you like using the archives it is possible to dig up all the other posts contained in that blog.
